Legends Moorland, designed by P.B. Dye and opened in 1990, is regarded as one of the strongest challenges on the East Coast, and a slope of 143 with a course rating of 73.6 supports that reputation. Natural growth, sand, water and waste areas combine with dramatic undulations and bulkheaded edges in a layout reminiscent of the PGA West Stadium Course. It is a course for low handicaps and confident players, though multiple tee sets let a mixed group decide how much of the test to take on. The par 4 16th, where the large bunker guarding the green is named Hell's Half Acre, is the hole everyone discusses afterward. Golf Digest named it one of America's 50 Toughest Golf Courses, and on a Legends golf trip it is the round to schedule when the group wants a true examination.
