Course overview

A North Strand golf course with a landscape all its own

Rivers Edge Golf Club is an Arnold Palmer Signature Design in Shallotte, North Carolina. The routing moves through pine forest, natural wetlands, tidal creeks and elevated river bluffs before reaching a dramatic closing stretch beside the Shallotte River. Seven holes are framed by river or marsh views, giving the course a visual character unlike a typical flat coastal layout.

How the round unfolds

The scenery and strategy build toward the Shallotte River

Rivers Edge begins among wooded corridors, wetlands and carefully shaped landing areas that reward position over power. As the round progresses, the property opens toward tidal marsh and elevated river bluffs. The final stretch brings the Shallotte River fully into view, creating the course’s most dramatic scenery and several of its most demanding decisions.

Why golfers book it

The course changes character as the river enters the round

Rivers Edge is not simply scenic. Arnold Palmer used the property to create changing sightlines, risk-reward decisions and a closing run that becomes more dramatic with every hole.

01

Seven river and marsh holes

Several holes rise above the Shallotte River while others descend toward tidal creeks and wetlands, producing rare elevation and perspective changes for coastal golf.

02

Strategic Palmer design

Landing areas reward thoughtful club selection and angles rather than pure length. Conservative targets remain available, while aggressive lines can shorten the following approach.

03

A memorable finishing stretch

The final four holes bring the river fully into view and create a cinematic finish, including the riverfront par 3 at No. 15 and the closing approach beside the clubhouse.

Course scorecard

Five tee options from 4,525 to 6,635 yards

Rivers Edge offers substantial yardage separation, helping golfers select a course length that matches their normal carry distances and approach-game comfort.

How difficult is Rivers Edge?

Rivers Edge can be demanding from the back tees, but it is not a one-size-fits-all test. The middle and forward tees substantially reduce total distance while preserving the course’s scenery and strategic character.

  • 1 Select tees based on reliable carry distance over marsh and creeks.
  • 2 Prioritize the correct side of each fairway over maximum driving distance.
  • 3 Allow additional warm-up time for the range, putting green and short game area.

Signature moments

Three holes that define a round at Rivers Edge

The riverfront holes receive much of the attention, but each asks a different question: when to attack, when to protect position and how confidently you can control distance over the marsh.

Hole 9

Arnie’s Revenge

Par 5 | 554 yards from the gold tees

A dramatic risk-reward par 5 beside the river. Positioning the second shot is essential because the narrow green is protected by marsh, shaping and bunkering.

Hole 15

The riverfront par 3

Par 3 | 195 yards from the gold tees

The first major act of the closing stretch. Distance control and wind judgment matter as the shot travels toward a green exposed to the marsh and river environment.

Hole 18

A riverfront finale

Par 4 | 371 yards from the gold tees

A strategic finishing hole returning toward the clubhouse and Double Eagle Grille, with the Shallotte River shaping the final approach.
