There are exactly two places on the Grand Strand where a golf group can wake up, walk to the first tee, play 54 different holes and never once load the trunk. Sea Trail is the one most groups have not tried yet. It sits in Sunset Beach just over the North Carolina line, about forty minutes up the coast from the Myrtle Beach airport, and it runs on a simple promise: three courses, one address, border town rates.

Let us be straight about what Sea Trail is, because that is exactly why groups love it. These are not the manicured trophy courses of Pawleys Island and nobody at the resort pretends otherwise. They are three honest, distinct designs by three name architects, kept in dependable shape, priced so an eight man group can play 36 a day without anyone wincing at the receipt. More than 2,500 golfers have reviewed the three courses through our booking engine, and the pattern in those reviews is remarkably consistent: came for the price, stayed for the convenience, booked it again next year.

The one address part
The villas sit inside the resort with 71 units running from one to four bedrooms, starting around one hundred dollars a night depending on season. Your foursome shares a kitchen, the first tee is a cart ride away and Calabash seafood is ten minutes down the road.

The Byrd Course Water Everywhere

Willard Byrd design · Opened 1990 · ★ 3.6 across 942 reviews

Willard Byrd routed his course around a chain of lakes, and nearly every scoring chance asks you to carry or flirt with water. It plays tougher than the card suggests and rewards the guy in your group who keeps the driver in the bag. Nine hundred plus reviews put it a notch behind the Jones and a notch ahead of the Maples, which feels exactly right.

The Maples Course The Friendly Round

Dan Maples design · Opened 1986 · ★ 3.2 across 513 reviews

The oldest of the three and the most forgiving. Dan Maples kept the landing areas wide and the greens approachable, which makes it the right course for the second round of a 36 hole day or for the players in your group who came for fun rather than a fight. Reviews land it third of the three, and as the relaxed round of the weekend it does its job.

“Maples would be a keeper for us. A terrific course in great condition” · Jim from Scituate

Staying on Property The Villas

The lodging is the reason Sea Trail works as a trip rather than a day out. The Sea Trail villas put the whole group inside the resort gates, in one to four bedroom units with full kitchens, and the math gets friendly fast when four guys split a four bedroom. You can also book villas and tee times direct on the Sea Trail site, which is worth knowing if your trip is Sea Trail only and you want everything on one receipt from the resort.

How to Book It Two Good Ways

Sea Trail only, keep it simple. The resort runs its own online tee sheet and lodging calendar, and booking direct at seatrail.com is the shortest path when all 54 holes you want are on property.

Sea Trail plus the rest of the beach. Most groups pair two Sea Trail days with a marquee day down the coast, Caledonia or TPC or the Dunes Club, plus lodging wherever the trip centers. That is a package, and it is what we do all day: one price, live tee times, a $100 per guest deposit and no platform fees.
