16th Annual Golf Dimensions Father & Son Team Classic in Myrtle Beach

As wonderful as Myrtle Beach golf can be when playing by oneself, it is even more fun to share the golf course with friends and family. For the last 16 years, one of the country’s foremost events concerned with the latter has welcomed thousands of father-son pairs to the Grand Strand for three days of golf and fellowship while creating memories for a lifetime. Last year’s event attracted over 450 teams from 46 states and seven countries. This year’s tournament is scheduled for Thursday, July 18 through Saturday, July 20.

The three tournament rounds subject teams to three different formats. The first day is a Texas scramble, where both players hit their tee shots on each hole, select the best and each play out the hole, selecting the best score per hole. The second round is best ball and the final round is a team scramble. Teams compete to win prizes in both gross and net divisions.

With so many hundreds of teams each year, a number of the best Myrtle Beach golf courses serve as the playing fields for the event, ranging up and down the Grand Strand. This year’s rotation features championship layouts that include the Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort, Long Bay Club, King’s North at Myrtle Beach National, Wild Wing Plantation’s Avocet Course, Rivers Edge Golf Club, Crow Creek, and Legends Resort.

This year’s tournament festivities kick off on Wednesday, July 17 when hundreds of father/son, grandfather/grandson and uncle/nephew teams will register for the tournament at one of Golf Dimensions’ two Myrtle Beach locations. Included in the team entry fee of $1,200 are all golf related fees, lunch following each round, a $100 gift card to Golf Dimensions, a pair of FootJoy golf shoes and glove, a golf shirt, hat, half a dozen golf balls and name-engraved bag tags. The entry fee for teams who have competed in past years is $975.

After the first day’s play, teams are invited to attend “A Family Affair,” a combination demo day and cook out located at Barefoot Resort’s world-class practice facility. After the completion of play on the third day, all teams return to Barefoot Resort to attend the awards ceremony and players’ luncheon.

“Myrtle Beach is one of the world’s great summer family golf destinations and we are proud to represent that spirit in the Father & Son Team Classic,” said Brad Greenstein, tournament director. “We are excited to be in our 16th year of this wonderful event. This year’s course rotation includes many of the gems of the beach”.
