Golfsmith Adds to Competitive Myrtle Beach Golf Store Scene

Veteran visitors to Myrtle Beach have long been familiar with its two main golf store giants: Golf Dimensions and PGA Tour Superstore (formerly known as Martin’s PGA Tour Superstore), each with two Grand Strand locations. Up in North Myrtle Beach, in fact, the stores sit directly across U.S. 17 from one another: combining for nearly 200,000 square feet of golf equipment, apparel and accessories in one block.

Since late May, though, there has been a third major competitor in the market. Golfsmith, the Texas-based nationwide company initially known more for its catalog than its brick-and-mortar locations. But it has built up a network of more than 100 stores in the United States and more than 50 in Canada under its GolfTown brand.

The Myrtle Beach location is situated near the junction of U.S. 501 and U.S. 17, placing it in the center of one of the busiest areas in Myrtle Beach. It will continue to catch the eye of golfers traveling to and from their own appointed rounds and has already proven a dependable addition to the golf retail scene. At approximately 35,000 square feet, it is a fraction of the size of nearby Golf Dimensions and PGA Tour Superstore locations, near 100,000 square feet each. But the designers of the Golfsmith store made sure to give it a feeling of great spaciousness, with high ceilings and the same sort of amenities its bigger area counterparts boast, such as multiple high-tech hitting bays where players can measure their launch and swing speed statistics for multiple clubs, a large synthetic putting green and even a wedge testing area. Whereas many golf stores have typically offered a couple hitting bays and not much else, Golfsmith has devoted considerable space to club fitting and testing.

In addition to club testing and fitting, the new Golfsmith store offers a fully-stocked club repair center. Need a new highfalutin shaft for your driver? Maybe some new grips? Do you like to work on your clubs at home and need some grip solvent? Golfsmith has all of those items and more.

Golfsmith’s Myrtle Beach location is open from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm Mondays through Saturdays, and 9:00 am to 8:00 pm on Sundays. For more information, visit www.Golfsmith.com.
