Most golf properties with three courses give you three versions of the same idea. Legends does the opposite. Turn in off Highway 501 at 1500 Legends Drive and you can play a British style links, one of the toughest target courses on the East Coast and a tree lined parkland test, all inside the same gates, all within a short cart ride of the villas.

Heathland: The Links One Tom Doak, 1990
Tom Doak built Heathland in the image of the old courses of the British Isles, with holes that nod to St Andrews and to lesser known gems such as Lahinch and Cruden Bay. Most holes play without trees or high vegetation, which gives you a view across the whole property and a completely different look from anything else on the Grand Strand.
The defense is not length. It is the breeze that blows across open ground all day, bunkers placed exactly where a good drive wants to finish, and deep rough along the fairway edges. Several greenside bunkers are deep enough that getting out takes an honest recovery shot rather than a wedge and a wish. GOLF Magazine rated it among the Top 10 New Resort Courses in the world when it opened.
Moorland: The Hard One P.B. Dye, 1990
Moorland is the one your group will talk about at dinner, in both directions. P.B. Dye filled it with large expanses of natural growth, sand, water and waste areas, then added dramatic undulation and bulkheading until the whole thing plays like the Stadium Course at PGA West set down in South Carolina. Golf Digest has named it one of America’s 50 Toughest Golf Courses, and Golfweek listed it among the Best Golf Resort Courses in America for 2025.
The signature moment is the 16th, where the bunker guarding the green carries the name Hell’s Half Acre. It earns it. Play Moorland from a sensible set of tees and it is a fair, thrilling test. Play it from the back and it will find every weakness in your game before the turn.
Parkland: The Classic One Larry Young, 1992
Parkland completed the trilogy in October 1992, and it is the most traditional of the three. The design borrows from Alister MacKenzie at Augusta National and George Thomas at Riviera: contoured tree lined fairways, vast natural areas, deep faced bunkers and large multi level greens that ask you to think about which part of the surface you want to be on.
It is also the longest of the three at just over 7,000 yards, with the highest slope on the property. Handling the fairway and greenside bunkering well takes a deft touch off the tee and on the approach, and strategy matters on every hole rather than raw distance.

Start on Heathland Day One
Wide open ground and no trees make it the friendliest first round after a long drive. It still asks good questions, but a loose tee ball is usually findable.
Moorland when everyone is fresh Day Two Morning
The hardest of the three deserves the round where the group is rested and the light is good. Nobody enjoys Hell’s Half Acre on tired legs at four in the afternoon.
Finish on Parkland Getaway Day
A classic, fair, satisfying closer. It sends the group home thinking about golf rather than about the one they lost three balls on.
